In November 2008, U.S. Republican Betsy Markey was elected to Congress and since January 2009, she has been representing the Fourth Congressional District. The main goals that Markey strives to achieve are: renewing fiscal responsibility in Washington, helping to build America’s economy, creating and restoring jobs in Colorado, focus on Colorado’s transportation systems, energy resources for the future, and keeping the farming and ranching strong within Colorado.
On a more personal level, Markey was the co-founder of an Internet consulting and Web Site development site called Syscom Services Inc. The firm has become one of the fastest-growing private firms. Markey is also the owner of a coffee and ice cream shop called, Huckleberry’s, located in Old Town Fort Collins.
A recent accomplishment has been that Markey returned over 100K to the U.S. treasury. She spent $117,000 from her office budget, which covers staffing and other costs of her offices in Greeley, Fort Collins, Lamar, Sterling, and Washington D.C. She has also introduced legislation strongly against federal wasteful spending; fighting for the money to be directed towards highways and other surface transportation mediums.
